Aidenvironment Presents A Discussion Event: Making No Deforestation Commitments Work
December 1, Amsterdam
In an interactive afternoon event, Aidenvironment, Chain Reaction Research coalition partner, will bring stakeholders from the private, public, and finance sectors together to share views on advancing No Deforestation practices – with special attention being given to the perspective of institutional investors.
Implementing corporate No Deforestation commitments is a challenge in commodity sectors that have historically driven deforestation. Although responsibility for implementation lies with the companies themselves, local and global stakeholders have an important role to play in contributing to effective solutions and creating an enabling environment. Aligning national and local community interests with No Deforestation goals and the adoption of legal frameworks are important elements in making No Deforestation Policies work. But the financial sector has an important role to play too, such as actively integrating REDD+ and No Deforestation objectives into investment decisions and financial modeling.
Program and Speakers
The program will start with an introduction by our key note speaker Kristel Verhoef, Active Ownership specialist at ACTIAM, responsible fund and asset manager.
Followed by case presentations from the agri- business industry by Tim Steinweg, consultant at Aidenvironment and Petra Meekers, Director of CSR and Sustainable Development at Musim Mas Group.
After the case presentations, there will be a panel discussion during which the audience will be invited to participate actively. Panel members are Michel Ridder (Project advisor RVO, Netherlands Enterprise Agency), Professor Frank Wijen (Erasmus University) and Gabriel Thoumi, CFA, FRM (Climate Advisors).
